
Biography
Bo Lyu, Chinese pianist born in Shenyang.
His playing is often described as “explosive”, showing “assurance and utter commitment”. Bo is a piano department teacher at the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, King's College London. He has also given talks and lectures on the "Methods of Practising" at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music.
Since he won the first prize at the Norah Sande Award Piano Competition in 2018, Bo Lyu was also top prize winner in many other competitions including Jaques Samuel Intercollegiate Piano Competition at Wigmore Hall and Windsor International Piano Competition. Bo's performance was featured in the "Yellow River" Documentary and also made appearances on BBC Radio 3, CCTV-4 China and NHK World TV. He has given solo concerts at Oundle International Music Festival, Bristol Colston Hall, Huntingdon Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts, Bedford The Quarry Theatre, Ed Landreth Auditorium Hall and Pepsico Recital Hall in USA.
Concerto performances include Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.2 with the Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra at the Blackheath Great Hall, Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Royal Academy Soloists Orchestra at the Duke’s Hall, Benjamin Britten Young Apollo, Op.16 with the Dartington Festival Orchestra, Schumann A minor Concerto with the Bristol Chamber Orchestra and Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the St John’s Chamber Orchestra at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead. Most recently he performed the Shostakovich Concert No. 2 with Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra.
Born in 1995, Bo Lyu received education at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music under Danwen Wei before coming to London. Bo studied piano with Professor Joanna MacGregor CBE at the Royal Academy of Music and was awarded full scholarships for his BMus degree and MMus degree (DipRAM, Regency Award). He was the piano department fellow at the Royal Academy of Music in 2020~2021, and is also an artist represented by Mousikos.
